Dallas has always been a blue collar city, and like most blue collar cities, a plethora of oil refineries, plants, factories, and other manual labour jobs have been here for generations. The problem with this type of employment is that it was often front and center in the battle with asbestos. Many of the top jobs that helped to make the city of Dallas a world financial capital also dealt directly with asbestos, and many of the people who were injured back in the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s are now seeking legal recourse.
If you fall into this group and you think that you have been exposed to asbestos either at work or your residence, contact a legal professional today to learn more about your legal options.
Dallas Has Screened the City for Asbestos
To help illustrate the seriousness of the number of asbestos cases in the city of Dallas, a citywide asbestos screening took place in July 2007. According to an article published on KHOU.com and also on KDOK.com, “More than 500 current and former residents of a West Dallas neighbourhood that was home to a vermiculite plant showed up for asbestos screening over the weekend, officials said.” The article goes on to say, “W.R. Grace & Co. operated the plant from 1953 to 1992 before it was demolished between 2001 and 2002.
It produced fire-retardant materials extracted from vermiculite. The process released asbestos fibers, which are small enough to be inhaled, into the air and the surrounding area.” Concern throughout Dallas has been running high not only because of plants that made fire retardant chemicals, but also because of asbestos exposure at local oil refineries.
