Asbestos Construction

Asbestos construction took place primarily before the 1980's. However, workers such as plumbers, insulators, painters, carpenters and electricians still face the dangers today when working on or remodeling older homes. There are many different materials in and around these older homes which can contain asbestos so even the home owner attempting some repairs or remodeling can be in danger. Asbestos is known now to cause a lung disease called Mesothelioma that can be fatal. Asbestos was used in thousands of schools across the country and many new additions and reconstructions to the schools had to be halted because Asbestos was found in the building. Masks may offer some protection but the debris from Asbestos material can be microscopic. The problem in tearing down or reconstructing buildings with Asbestos is that the work will cause the Asbestos to be airborne which could affect many people overall. Buildings that are being torn down and are known to contain Asbestos material have to follow a certain procedure to deconstruct the building. A special permit must also be obtained. There are news stories about Asbestos and Mesothelioma weekly and at times, daily. It is a very dangerous substance and if you find out there is asbestos in your home, precautions should be taken.
