Asbestos Types

Asbestos is a substance that occurs naturally. This fibrous silicate mineral may be divided into 2 distinct major classifications. The first group of asbestos minerals are classified as serpentine asbestos. This group contains asbestos types with long, curly or wavy fibers. The most common type of serpentine asbestos is chrysotile or white asbestos. The second classification of asbestos minerals is amphibole. Amphibole asbestos is characterized by mineral fibers that are straight and needle-like.
