Asbestos personal injury cases have netted some very large financial verdicts in recent years. Asbestos lawsuits have been filed against asbestos manufacturers and other companies whose workers were exposed to the hazardous material in the workplace. In addition, asbestos law suits have been filed against other companies, such as landlords whose tenants lived in buildings that contained asbestos materials. Asbestos verdicts in recent years have been extremely large, including one $10 million judgment against Thorpe Insulation Company. Thorpe was the manufacturer of the insulation. The plaintiff received his exposure to the insulation during his tenure as a ship fitter in the US Navy. In reality, however, most asbestos cases never go to trial. Most are settled, particularly if they are against the manufacturer of the insulation. Such companies are certainly now aware of the dangers of asbestos products and have likely already settled many personal injury claims. In fact, many manufacturers of asbestos products have filed bankruptcy and gone out of business as a result of the financial toll these personal injury claims have put on them financially.
