How Dangerous Is Asbestos

How dangerous is asbestos? Asbestos is one of the most dangerous substances we can inhale. Made from rock formations, asbestos becomes tiny fibers too small for the human eye to see when mined and processed. The substance was often used to make insulation and floor and ceiling tiles for homes and commercial buildings. The substance was popular because it was inexpensive and fire resistant. However, it has been found to cause two diseases: asbestosis, a scarring of the lung tissue which can be so severe that the lungs may cease to function, and mesothelioma, a deadly lung cancer. Today, the use of asbestos is highly regulated, but some buildings still exist containing the substance. Those most at risk for diseases related to the inhalation of asbestos fibers are those who worked in and around the substance over a period of years. If you or a family member has been exposed to asbestos, it is wise to seek medical testing immediately and then seek the advice of an attorney who specializes in litigation for those with exposure to asbestos.
