There has been much information in the media and in general discussions about the connection between talc and asbestos. In reality talc asbestos combinations do exist, but they are most commonly used in very specific types of commercial applications. These types of commercial talc asbestos products are often found in the production of appliances and automobile as well as some electrical switchboards, lab counter tops and even paints and filler may have these combinations of talc and asbestos. In cosmetic talc, the kind most often used by women and on infants, the use of talc asbestos is much less likely and is typically found in very trace amounts. However, leading researches have shown a link between women that use talc products for feminine hygiene and higher rates of ovarian cancers. Many doctors and researchers are requesting that all talc cosmetic products and powders now carry a warning label that indicates that use of these products on or around the genitalia may result in a high risk of ovarian cancer.
