Environmental Lab Indicted for Falsifying Test Results
June 5, 2009
Certified Environmental Services, Inc. of Syracuse, New York has recently been indicted for falsifying test results to hide the shoddy asbestos removal projects in local homes, schools, and businesses. It was found that five employees, as well as the company itself, were guilty of Clean Air Act violations, mail fraud, and making false statements to agents of the Environmental Protection Agency.
Laboratory results, which said that asbestos levels were at or below detectable, were being distributed to schools, homes and buildings when, in fact, they were not safe. The following are the buildings in which the reports were falsified:
- A sorority house at Syracuse University
- A furniture warehouse
- The building housing Syracuse television station WSTM
- A medical office building
- A reading room at the Kellogg Library in Cincinnatus in Cortland County
- A Jobs Corps building in Oneonta
Lawyers for CES said that the employees had no reason to believe that their customers were in any sort of danger.
